Wait, I’m Supposed to Read Too?
Uh yeah, that pretty much sums it up right there.
The hardest part of being a writer who has a full time day job, a husband, two younger boys, 2 dogs (one of which is a 2 year old Lab) and 3 cats is that “me” time is at a premium. Usually I use it to write furiously between breaking up fights and making peanut butter sandwiches.
But when I find a few spare moments, I LOVE to read. Sometimes it gets so bad that I crave a good book like a freshly made glazed donut. That’s when I tune out all responsibility, curl up in a chair, and read.
In April I read an awesome book called Hate List by Jennifer Brown. (And if I could get it to work, I’d have a fancy pic of the cover.Grrr.) I usually don’t go for contemporary. I can’t even remember the last book I read that didn’t have faeries or shapeshifters or wolves, but I bought 2 books that were totally out of my zone to try. And all I can say is, WOW.
I had no expectations going into Hate List. I knew the basic plot, but had no idea how the author would spin it. It was amazing. It was dark. It was real. I loved how the author gave us a glimpse of the past after “that day” and showed us the relationships before and after. How the MC struggled, tried to understand and come to grips with everything.
In a word. I loved it. (Oh wait, that’s three words.)
So what book have you read lately that made you close the cover, exhale and look around, and say “Wow”?
Definitely adding this to my TBR list. Excellent review!
I have been thinking about reading Hate List. I am glad to hear you liked it so much–I will have to give it a shot!
I’m not sure how many more times today I can say, “I meant to read this and now I guess I’ll have to.”
definitely adding this one to my list! thanks for the suggestion
Sounds good! I’ll have to add it to my list.
